Stock Watch 2/1/07

Adding ARIA, RGBL, BLD to the watch list. TRMM & ZANE are now forceswing candidates. Still watching WSTL, CLWT, XJT. XJT had massive volume today(5 million vs. 630 thousand) on Airline Industry News, and closed up just .13%. It's been said, "volume precedes price movements"...lets see which way this goes. Check out Green on the Screen blog for volume discussion.

Stock Results: 1/31/07

MAMA traded as high as $4.69 before closing the day with a 1.59% gain. DCNAQ gained 2.61% to close at $1.18. WSTL was only able to gain 0.88%, but is up almost 4% in after hours trading.

Our talk of the week, EVCC made its "usual" morning run and subsequent drop, just closing up over 10%.

ZVUE took in a nice 7.97% gain after trading up 15%. ;-) SWKS, up just 0.77%. DKAM traded on twice the average volume, closed with a nice 8.31% gain. XNN, which had some good news today, took in 9.21% gain. OPBL wasn't able to hold on to its early upward movement, and closed the day down just about 1%.

Another super day for EVCC! Once again, in early trading, EVCC quickly ran up to $4.80, a gain of over 44% before settling in and closing the day at $4.18, a gain of over 18%.

Also another notable performance today by DKAM which traded as high as $3.34, a 10% gain, before closing the day down 1.63%. OPBL traded well today, closing the day up over 12%. Other forceswing watch, DENN, couldn't continue its early upward movement, and closed down a slight 0.75%. SKNN took in 5.70% on light volume, to close up at $2.04 as did ISWI which took in 5.41%. WSTL edged up just 0.44%.

Wow! What a day for EVCC! In early trading, EVCC quickly ran up to $7.74, a gain of over 40%, but dropped like a rock in afternoon trading to close down at $3.51, a loss of 36%!!! Huge trading range!

Notable performances today by DKAM, which gained 13.33% to close at $3.06, FORG gained 3.94%, SKNN, 2.66%. CPLNQ closed down 5.63%, CLWT down 4.23%, IDEV up 1.60%. Forceswing watch DAR, closed up a mere 1.57%. WSTL closed down 5.06%. Poor earnings that were announced late Wednesday are still affecting trading.

Checking In from Washington, DC

If you've not clicked on the map on the sidebar "Where in the World", please do so. It gives a great visual to where our blog visitors hail from. From Alaska to Australia - it's amazing!

I'd like to thank you for visiting. My name is Jan and I'm based in Washington, DC. My goal is to gain financial independence this year. Trading is a major part of my income plan. Feel free to leave some feedback or comments, or maybe just a quick note to represent your neighborhood.

Stock Watch - Week of 1/29/07

Currently, I screen for stocks on a daily basis searching for stocks that look poised for a reversal. The ones that didn't perform on the day of the watch, were watched for the next few days. Most of the times, they performed on the subsequent days if they still met the criteria.

This week, I'd like to narrow my trading universe, so I'll be screening daily, but I'll be tightening up the requirements so I can focus better. The results should be less watches, better performance.

I'll still be watching CPNLQ, IDEV & CLWT, forceswing candidate DAR and hey, for the fun of it, EVCC. Why not? It's been a bull for the past few days and just when you think it will stop, it keeps on going up! It's RSI(2) is up over 99, so certainly that's a bearish signal. I guess you can call EVCC my curiosity candidate. In addition, I'll be watching ADAT, ISWI, SCLN, XNN, SKNN, LTXX, FORG, XOMA, XJT, AIS, QNTA, DKAM, WSTL, ENTU, BKHM, ITKG, VNX, ARDM.

Great rally today by Mindspeed, MSPD, which closed the day with a 9.19% gain on three times usual volume and good news. VC closed the day up just .72% at $8.38 but traded as high as $8.50 earlier in the day. Also, good gains were had by ALAN and SUF which added 6.37% and 4.42% respectively. Forceswing candidates were OBCI (down .95%) , SVNT(down .41%) and RNVS (1.77%). ILE, SQNM and CLRT had losses.

Some of yesterday's watches turned green: CEF (2.52%), TSCM(3.37%), GSS(6.62%), ELNK(0.56%), POTP (1.01%), IMOS(1.41%), TOPT (1.58%), IAG(1.49%) as well as CDIC(2.63%) and ASIA(1.37%).

Stock Watch 1/23/07

Watching fails especially VC, SQNM, CDIC and CHINA. Other watches include SUF, ILE, ADL, INSM, MSPD, RTK, IPXL, ETLY, CLRT, MIKR and forceswing candidates OBCI, RNVS, SVNT.

BKHM, AVNC, HMB - been down riding the LBB for quite a few days - will be keeping my eyes on them.

Please be sure to visit Green on the Screen blog for discussion of the entry signal 10/60 cross and wait for green.

ONT and FORG did not hold green but closed up 3.36% and 2.20% respectively. SQNM held green but was a wash with 0% gain. CHINA, EDA and ECIL all just closed slightly lower. Big losers today were VPSC, which I hadn't realized was a penny stock, (4.84% loss) , and ALAN lost 4.94%.

Largest increase for today was a 5.11% gain for CPNE, and 2.23% gain for INCY.

Overall, trading was a little flat today. Of note is the flat performance of ASIA, UBET and INSM again. ASIA, which has an earnings call this coming Wednesday, managed to stay green with a slight 0.44% gain to close at $8.15. ASIA's volume was 180 thousand vs. a 90 day average of 430 thousand. INSM closed again with 0% change and UBET edged up 0.56% .

Previous fail AVNC was down again, for the 13th day, with a small loss 0.71%. FORG closed down another 1.45%. Yesterdays fail ARIA closed up 2.11%. as did CCUR with 1.84%. Winners were DHBT which took in 5.35% and AMNT which took in 4.10%.

Stock Watch 1/19/07

Watching fails. ASIA is on my watch list for trading today. It came up as a forceswing candidate. Using the force index for short term trading you would look for a negative 3 day force index and positive 13 day force index. ASIA came up last Thurs. as forceswing watch, and rocketed in trading on Friday, Jan 12. It's been in a downtrend since. Average volume is 430 thousand. Last Friday, volume was almost 3 million. The force index is calculated with the price difference multiplied by the volume, so the volume has to be strong to make this reversal. Other watches include ACUS AMNT GEMS DHBT

Only XOMA close up today with a 1.20% gain. Forceswing candidate INSM and last minute addition UBET closed with a wash, 0% change. 11 day down performer AVNC has now turned into a 12 day down stock with an RSI(2) of .04. ONT traded over 2 million shares, almost twice the average volume but closed down 5.47%. FORG was the biggest loser on my list today with a loss of over 12.03% on close to average volume. Back to basics tomorrow.

Stock Watch 1/18/07

Still watching this week's watches; especially AVNC since it has been down for 11 consecutive days and RSI(2) below 1 and FORG.

Forceswing candidates I'm watching INSM and BVSN. From various other screens, I'll also be watching CCUR, ONT, XOMA, ARIA

These watches really need to hold for green and have a good volume.

Last minute addition UBET, which made EMA cross and TRIX cross.

Stock Results: 1/17/06

Click the following link for a snapshot of today's performance of my watches: 01/17/2007 Results. Much more green than yesterday's results.

The story for me today was Friday's fail, BRLC, which climbed its way back up to close green with a 3.33% gain on volume of 4.6 million vs. an average volume of 2.4 million.

SKNN (8.43%), TERN (5.59%), FORG (3.27%), PFSW (5.17%) all closed up on average or above average volume. AVNC which closed down 2.97%, is now an 11 day down/low RSI candidate - a definite watch for tomorrow with an RSI(2) of 0.09. Today's 11 day down candidate, ACAD, closed up 3.80% had an RSI(2) of 0.0059.

Tuesday, January 16, 2007

Stock Watch 1/17/06

No forceswing candidates for today, but I'll still be watching yesterday's force candidate TASR. As well as all the other fails from yesterday, AVNC, BRLC, FORG, LBIX, PFSW, SKNN, TASR, TERN.

Additionally, ACAD is showing as an "11 day down" watch.

Stock Results: 1/16/07

Click the following link for a snapshot of today's performance of my watches: 01/16/2007 Results. I warn you, though, my results today are not pretty.

Only AERT closed up today, gaining 4.62%.

All others - AVNC, BRLC, FORG, LBIX, PFSW, SKNN, TASR, TERN - closed down. I'd like to think low volume was the culprit but most traded today at or above average 90 day volume. That's life in the market. Trailing stops and wait for green will prevent extreme losses especially on trading days like today.

Monday, January 15, 2007

Stock Watch 1/17/07

My forceswing candidates look like the usual suspects - FORG TASR
Also will be watching for some movement from Friday's forceswing candidates that failed - BRLC, PFSW

Also watching AVNC, AERT, TERN, and SKNN. My curiosity candidate is Leading Brands, Inc., LBIX. Earnings were announced Thurs, Jan 11, with a Q3 loss .04/share and YTD results were flat at .00/share. The stock took a 10.54% dip on Friday.

Stock Results: 1/12/07

Click the following link for a snapshot of today's performance of my watches: 01/12/2007 Results

The story of the day must be ASIA, the forceswing fail from yesterday's watch. It closed up 8.13% at $8.38, after running up to $8.84 (14%) on extremely high volume with the good news of a contract with China Unicom.

TGEN added another 4.95% to close at $4.45. Having purchased TGEN on Wednesday, 1/10/07, I was happy to exit TGEN near it's high of the day $4.77. ZVUE also closed up 2.53%. BRLC, which previously closed at $9.15, gapped up and made an early run up to $9.52, but closed the day down at $8.99 (1.75%). A definite watch for next trading day. PFSW also closed slightly down (0.18%).

When you view the day's trading results, be sure to look for other fails this week that went green!

Stock Watch: 1/12/07

Watching fails, especially: TGEN, ASIA, ZVUE

Forceswing candidates: BRLC and PFSW. For a more detailed description of watch BRLC, visit the Green on the Screen blog.

ONT was on watch on Monday, 1/8/07 and took in a 5.36% gain on volume 6 times the average with no major news. But the real story for me today was the implementation of the 10/60 cross to confirm in the entry of ZICA (5.92%) and DKAM(8.80%) . ZVUE (5.32%) did not hold green.

Forceswing candidates results: SONS(1.83%), ASIA (0.26%), EVCC(3.97%). TGEN held on for a 2.17% gain on unusually low volume. I'll still be watching tomorrow. While I was not watching, "11 day down" winner from yesterday, FICC took in another 6.63% on high volume.

Stock selection has been working nicely and even better with 10/60 cross. Now trading methods need to be refined - trailing stops, stop loss, etc. since I can't monitor the market during the day. Today was a nightmare with one trade when a trailing % was processed as a trailing $! I'm switching brokers.

Stock Watch 1/11/07

Watching yesterday's fails - especially ZVUE, TGEN, ONT, NEXM, and previous days fails, too - ZIXI.

Forceswing candidates SONS, ASIA, EVCC. I usually don't do pinks, but if I did I'd look at USSE today.

Also I'm watching DKAM, ZICA, and FORG (again).

Surprise for me today was FICC which closed the day up 9.28% after being down 11 days in a row. I added FICC to the watch list after reading somewhat controversial stockfetcher forum post titled "Buy on Red". Adding the suggested columns, FICC had an RSI(2) = 0.0038 , %R -96.45 and Fast %K 2.50, took a look at the lbb ride on the chart. Interesting way to find the low riders. I should add, I could have also just screened for Fast %K<10 and then sort by RSI column, but the addition of the "11 days down" added another element. Running the screen intraday was also useful - came across RDYN which had also been down 11 days, it added 2.74% in trading today.

CPNLQ added almost 8% on volume of over 16 million vs. 6 million average. SKNN closed slightly up 0.80%. Yesterday's fail ISON performed well gaining almost 11% on average volume. Also fail RGBL took in 2.56% and Monday's fail LNX, took in 14.15%.

Forceswing candidate ZVUE still belonged to the bears, closed down 3.59% on very low volume. TERN pulled off a 3.00% gain on close to average volume.

Stock Watch 1/10/07

Fails! 'Nuff said.

TERN and ZVUE are my forceswing candidates.

Looking at TGEN CPWR NEXM CPNLQ SKNN FICC for some movement.

Stock Results: 1/9/07

I feel redeemed. In at $1.80 out at $1.96 in yesterday's fail FORG - over 8% gain in a very short time. FORG closed the day up 6.69%, but made a great run up to its $2.00 high of the day before pulling back. Exited STEM on the green side and breakeven for ZIXI.

Positive performances for forceswing candidates MIVA, up 2.74% and TERN, just up 0.50%. I omitted TASR from the chart below, but it gained 3.54%. ACLS also added 7.35%. Both TASR and ACLS had above normal volume and were very active in pre-market trading.

My curiosities, the Jim Cramer picks, is my story of the day for me - LVLT - a MASSIVE 65 million shares traded, twice the average volume, loads of premarket activity, up 2.53% gain. Same volume story with RAD and SVNT but better gains: RAD, up 3.23%, SVNT up, 9.26%. Proof once again of the Jim Cramer effect?

Last week's fails showed up today: CLWT, closed up 15%! ACTC closed up 6.76%. NFLD added another 3.23%, DCTH, up 4.23%. Of course, I wasn't even looking. Didn't someone tell me to watch my fails? :o

The following stocks held green today:

ONT
0.74%
VXGN
4.78%
MEMY
7.42%
ZIXI
3.48%

And lots of red:

FORG -10.27% DKAM -9.03% MBND -4.23% RGBL -11.17% WTAR -15.38%

I'm still holding STEM (up 6.02%) and forceswing candidate ZIXI.

Stock Watch 1/8/07

Besides watching Jim Cramer's picks, I'll be eyeing ZIXI DPHIQ STEC

After reading Muddy's comments, I spent some time this weekend reading & rereading his posts regarding sq/vol/breakout (it's amazing how many times he answers the same questions over the years!). The sq/vol/breakout would have returned WTAR and DKAM and quite a few other gems. Additionally, I realize I still need to follow up better with the fails. So with that, I'll be watching: ONT FORG DKAM VXGN DSTI MBND LNX ENCY RGBL MEMY

Jim Cramer Says: LVLT, RAD, SVNT for 2007

Last night's Mad Money show(01/05/07), Jim Cramer gave his top three speculative picks for 2007.

His picks:

1. Level 3 Communications, LVLT
2. Rite Aid, RAD
3. Savient Pharmaceuticals, SVNT

These picks caught my attention since they have been typical swing trading or short term trading plays. He warned, as he usually does, don't run out and buy these after hours or first thing Monday morning, but to do your homework over the weekend. I wonder how many folks will do that.

I blogged back on 12/14/06 when he recommended GSIC. The next day volume jumped to over 2 million from 375 thousand and it gained 7%. Same thing when he recommended GSOL back on 12/8/06 - the stock was trading at $14, the next day it was $16.30 - 16% jump - and volume jumped from 55 thousand to 1.4 million. Bloggers have discussed the Jim Cramer effect, I wonder is it too late to profit from it?

Stock Results: 1/5/07

Very low volume for PNTR today, closed at $10.83, 2.00% loss. Traded on volume of only 90 thousand vs. 347 thousand 90 day average. Same for CLWT, volume of 165 thousand vs. 519 thousand 90 day average. CLWT closed down today to $3.46 for a loss of 1.98%. Not the deja vu I was hoping for. Back on 12/28, PNTR soared up to 18%.

On a brighter note, I joined in the biotech frenzy and caught a piece of STEM which closed up 6.75% on volume of over 8 million.

Stock Watch 1/5/07

Deja vu of 12/28/06: Watching PNTR and CLWT.

4th up day in a row for Northfield Labs, NFLD, who announced an earnings call next week. Inksure Technologies, INKS, gained $0.13 (4.73%) to close at $2.88.

Got out of LMRA just before it lost 5.70%. Whew!

Stocks that held green today:

SIRI 5.65%
CLWT-5.03%
TGEN2.98%
NFLD3.69%
LMRA-5.70%

SIRI's previous close was $3.54. It opened today at $3.75, traded as high as $3.90 and closed at $3.74. Huge gap! My curiosity candidate, NFLD closed up today, third day in a row, to add 3.69%.

Forceswing candidate TGEN did not disappoint. It traded to a high of $5.90 (6% gain) to finally close at $5.53 up with a 2.98% gain.

Trade Your Way to a Million Dollars

Not a unique exercise, but fun, nonetheless...Start with $3000 of capital, earn 10% profit each transaction, reinvest accumulated capital.

Just 61 trades away from a million dollars? Sounds good. It's the beginning of the year...there's plenty of time. :-)

Of course, these calculations don't include commissions or losses from failed stock picks - just the mathematical possibility of a what-if scenario.

Ah...the beauty of compound interest...

Stock Watch 1/3/07

I will continue to watch fails from last week ENCY ,CLWT and SIRI. I'll also be keeping my eyes on EPIX and LMRA for more positive gains.

Be sure to read any comments posted on this blog. You may find great insight in there. Muddy gave a heads up on CPNLQ and DCTH.

My forceswing candidate of the day is Targeted Genetics, TGEN which lost 8.83% in trading on Friday to close at $5.37 with no apparent news or rumours but looks poised for a reversal.

My curiousity of the day will have to be Northfield Labs, NFLD, whose recent drug disaster cost its shares to plunge over 70% since December. Northfield "reported a higher-than-expected death rate in a study for its blood substitute product PolyHeme". NFLD gained 6% in trading on Friday, to close up at $4.07. Although recent news has been pretty grim, it's had "2 straight up days inside". Worth a look?
